Is OS X BSD Based?

I've often heard that OS X is BSD based but I've never seen it confirmed. Anyone know for sure that it is BSD based?

Yes, they say it on their page (apple.com):

As a Linux user, if you ever switch to Mac OSX you will easily be able to navigate around in the console.
