Default 8.10 fresh install.. help

ok guys, this is how I have my computer setup.

2 HDD in it, each 250gb, one is windows, one is linux, it was ubuntu 7.04, but I upgraded to 8.10 via updates manager...

warning, do not update with the updates manager, it messes things up, do a fresh install!

I did a fresh install on my laptop of 8.10 and its perfect, (for the most part, what doesnt work is not because of the OS). So... when I installed 8.04 it was easy, it simply asked me if I wanted to partition, if yes, how much should belong to ubuntu, but when I installed 8.10 on my laptop, it wasnt like that, it wanted to override the ENTIRE HDD, and to partition, I would need to install windows after.

well I want to do a fresh install on my desktop asap, but how do I do that without messing up my windows partition?

Thanks

It should ask you if you want the installer to "automatically" partition or if you want to "base" your partition from a template. Did you accidentally click "automatic" ?

I am pretty sure you could partition only a sector of your HD and the partitioner won't wipe out the whole disk.

I've never seen any Linux OS wipe ALL partitions out. Are you sure it doesn't mean it will wipe all selected/linux partitions out?

/off to download Ubuntu 8 and see

Interesting. I've never seen a Linux partition want to erase all partitions. Do you know if Ubuntu uses "Disk Druid" ?

Did you resolve this issue? Isn't there a new release out now? Why not just "manually" partition your hds?
