They use fiber optic network cables (cables that contain glass and transmit via light signals). They can transfer at amazing speeds. You can install your OS on a NAS or SAN connected via fiber and it will run as fast or faster than having your OS installed on a local hard drive.

I think I found one. The QLogic series. Anyone ever used these?

What's a fiber optic card? Does it have something to do with a network card? Or a video card?

As i know about it , A fiber optic gasket includes one or more apertures to individually retain optical fibers from one or more fiber optic cards positioned within an enclosure .
