Default Incompatible Video cards?

Why are some old video cards incompatible with most of Linux OS? I mean as far as I know XP is compatible with old ones (as long as they have the minimal specs)

Because the drivers were never made for the video cards in the kernel. I doubt they will add old cards to a new kernel.

I think they do add drivers for old video cards. At least the "Generic" type would work. XP has to support them since it is a commercial product. I believe they have a generic type driver too.

Well any products are commercial (even some versions of Linux)

Anyways I think that is a pity.. at least so far all Linux OSes seem to support my video card so far.

What video card do you have? There is usually a generic nvidia or ATI driver that always works although it may not support 3D.
