Dual Booting

At school we had to install Windows, and then Ubuntu 7.10 after it (dual booting) and in windows we created only one partition, and then Ubuntu divided it into another partition. Would you recommend letting Ubuntu partitioning the disk or it's better if you partition the HDD into two before installing anything?

You don't have to split it up in partitions before installing the different operating systems. You can easily start with making a partition for Windows; install it, and then later make a new partition for Linux.

Yeah but how? Because Ubuntu is capable of doing it but for example freespire is not capable of creating partitions it's self.

The creation of a new partition is very different from operating system to operating system and when talking about Linux; from distribution to distribution. Freespire may not provide a graphical interface for making new partition, it could be text-based.

I think you should look around and explore the Live CD of yours, and see if you can find somewhere to make new partitions.

After this post I checked Freespire's Wiki. You can manage partitions on the Live CD, using a graphical interface. The Live CD includes a version of GParted. Click here to find more information about GParted, and how to manage partitions under Freespire.

I know.. I couldn't find it though.. anyways I have GParted on a CD but when I tried partitioning an HD with it, it deleted all the data from the HD....
