Default Can't Play AVI's

I can't play any AVI files! It seems to load and then just pauses there. It seems I don't have the correct codecs. How do I get codecs?

Sounds like you may need to add more repositories.

Ubuntu does not have all packages available by default. You must enable the universe to be able to install certain software.

Go here this site has lots of tips etc for Ubuntu/Kubuntu

You should be able to play wmv with Kaffeine or Xine or Mplayer if you have all the 'codects' installed from your repositories. Look for win32 in Adept, pacman, Synaptic or whatever package manager you use.

I use Kubuntu 7.04 and 'xine-extracodecs' is in my repository so I can play wmv etc. Type in 'video' or 'codecs' in your package manager and look at the descriptions and install the ones you need.
