Default forum software

I am wondering what some users would choose as their forum software. I currently use SMF... but have a hard time trying to pay for Vbulletin and others.

I prefer Vbulletin only because I am use to it. I've seen some SMF forums look better than Vbulletin forums though.

I usually use SMF. I found it quite good and simple to manage.

smf is slowly catching up to Vbulletin, it has a nice layout and more features are coming with Ver 2

Yes I should agree with that. And with some addons you can eventually have all (and more) of vBulletin's features.

Yes.. I like SMF too, although I sometimes find phpbb kind of.. ugly. Although I have never seen the new phpbb3

IMO everything depends from the Theme/Template.

In my opinion, phpBB is the best forum software. It's easy, full featured, very customizable, and very popular.

I hate SMF. My favorite forum software applications include vBulletin and MyBB. MyBB is almost equal to vBulletin, and is far-more superior to SMF in features and design.

MyBB gets my vote for best open source forum software solution.
